General Practice Registrars
Southam Surgery is an accredited Training Practice involved in the training of fully qualified doctors who are coming to the end of their General Practice training.
We have registrars who work with us in the practice for 6-12 month periods of time and who are carrying out their training with the Coventry and Warwickshire GP Vocational Training Scheme.
We have been a training practice for many years now and the feedback from patients regarding our registrars has been very positive with registrars becoming an important part of the team. They provide patients with a greater diversity of clinicians and bring fresh ideas and approaches that are beneficial to established doctors and patients. When you are seeing a GP Registrar, you can expect to receive the quality of service you would get from your own GP.
Registrar doctors will have their own surgeries and it will be clearly signposted in the waiting room and on the Doctor’s door that they are GP Registrars. On occasions they will also sit in on a clinic run by a fully qualified General Practitioner. Prior to entering the consulting room your will be told if they are present.
Occasionally, GP Registrars carry out video recordings of their consultations for training purposes. You will be warned in advance when this is happening and they will only proceed with your written consent. Intimate examinations will not be recorded and the camera can be switched off at any time. All recordings are strictly confidential and will only be viewed by the Registrar and their GP Trainer, who is one of the GPs based at the Surgery. If you feel uncomfortable with having your consultation recorded then you have the opportunity to decline if you prefer.
From time to time we also have nursing students may be present during your consultation. If you do not wish for these students to be present then please let us know.
