Pregnancy

Are you trying to conceive?

Whilst attempting to conceive please remember that eating a healthy balanced diet, avoiding smoking and taking a daily folic acid and vitamin D supplement are really important. If you are taking any medication it is important to check to make sure it is safe to be taken in pregnancy.

I’M PREGNANT…Congratulations!

Your Pregnancy can be confirmed by using a Pregnancy Test kit available from most pharmacies and supermarkets. No additional testing is required by your GP. It is best you book a telephone appointment with a GP once your test becomes positive so we can discuss your pregnancy and make sure you know how we book your midwife, the midwife will then contact you to confirm an appointment often occurring between 8-12 weeks from the first day of your last period. Ultrasound scans then often follow at 12 weeks and 20 weeks. Please visit Pregnancy – NHS (www.nhs.uk) for more information.

Please click here to self-refer to Warwick Hospital to book your maternity care and use the following link

If you have any problems during your pregnancy you can contact your midwife or your GP. If you have any serious concerns it is possible to contact Warwick Hospital Antenatal Assessment Unit on 01926 495321 ext 4090.

After your pregnancy

You will be supported by the midwife and Health Visitors. A GP review of mother and baby at 6 weeks after delivery should then follow.

Are you struggling to conceive?

It is generally considered normal that conception can take up-to 1 year of trying. If conception has not occurred after this period of time then please speak to a GP and we can help. Further investigations may include blood tests, semen analysis and referral to regional fertility services.

Termination of pregnancy

If you have found out you are pregnant but don’t want to proceed with your pregnancy, please contact BPAS on 03457 304030 or visit their website.

Health Screening

Screening is a way of finding out if people are at a higher risk of a health problem, so that early treatment can be offered or information given to help them make informed decisions

The Current NHS Screening Programme includes:

Diabetic Retinal Screening

The NHS provides FREE eye screening for people with diabetes aged over 12 years old.

Eye screening is an important part of your diabetes care. Retinopathy often has no symptoms until the disease is advanced. If left undetected, it can lead to blindness.

Diabetic eye screening is changing. If you’re at lower risk of diabetic retinopathy, expert advice shows it’s safe to be screened every 2 years. Anyone at higher risk will continue to be screened more regularly. Screening is important as it helps to prevent sight loss. Have regular eye tests and consult your optometrist if you notice changes to your eyesight. Full details at Diabetic eye screening – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Travel Vaccinations & Non-NHS Services

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to make an appointment with a nurse. This initial appointment must be at least 6 weeks before you travel.

The NHS does not pay for all of the services we provide, so patients may be required to pay for some of these services.

Our fees are in line with BMA approved national guidelines.
